My Chick-Fil-A DIY Upcycling Challenge

DIY, Chick-Fil-A Mom, Upcycle Challenge

I am a Chick-Fil-A Mom and I love everything that it entails. Recently I took the challenge of  upcycling the containers that Chick-Fil-A‘s chicken tortilla soup is served in, minus the soup…..obviously!   Anything for an excuse (as if I needed one) to frequent my favorite place – especially with their seasonal soups on these winter days.  It warms the soul and it tastes just how I would make it, if I decided to put that much effort in that is!

When it comes to crafting I have two left hands, .so I was stumped. I didn’t know what I could do. I am not sure how I even constructed the items below. Here is the good news, if this mamma can do it without hot gluing her fingers together or destroying some parts of her home….you can be a “Craftista” too!

When deciding on what to make for my  upcycle project I first took a look to see what I had around the house. After looking at what I had on hand I decided to brainstorm some ideas.

What I had on hand

  1. Spray paint
  2. Jeweled fabric
  3. Different colored fabric
  4. Hot Glue Gun
  5. Plastic Eggs
  6. St. Patricks Day decor
  7. Colored twists
  8. Colored plastic grass
  9. Plastic Bags
  10. Imagination, heart and a “lets have at it!” attitude.

After I gathered my supplies, I went to every room in my house to see what kind of decor I could invent to  help with clutter.

My husband is always leaving his change on the dresser and it is so annoying. I am not a neat freak by any means but this gets me. He just leaves it on top of the dresser, all his change from his pockets. So I decided to make a decorative jewel change collector. It matches my decor in my room and so easy to put the change in. It also bedazzled our bedroom with all that bling! Talk about a game “changer”! It’s really just my two cents! HA! Sorry couldn’t resist. What you need for this is a Chick-Fil-A container, spray paint if you choose, fabric and a hot glue gun as well as number 10 from my list.  Be sure to cut out part of the plastic so the change can go in it.

Not to totally rank on my husband for his slight imperfections, of course.   In fact, I feel he is almost perfect in every way (that comment just earned me some wife points…just go with it).

Now it was time to focus on my own clutter and my makeup vanity is insane. Brushes are always laying on the counter and it drives my husband crazy.  I have over 25 brushes and ladies you know that, like shoes, its never enough. I have my everyday brushes, my going out brushes etc etc., all of which I leave on the counter.  Until now, that is.  After this Upcycle project I don’t. It makes a perfect brush holder. I am so excited about this one. I feel so glam and it just fits so perfectly on my counter and My hubby is pleased as well. It’s a give and take for us.

After this second project I felt like a pro and it became addicting. I started asking the kids if they needed me to make anything out of soup containers. My kids just looked at me and walked away. Well their loss!  undeterred, I charged ahead and lets just say that after the next project my son kissed me and I am not even Irish. It was my lucky day. My own little leprechaun, now if I can just find that pot of gold!

Top of the mornin to ya!

A tisket a tasket I seriously can’t believe I crafted this basket! I love it and its perfect for Spring! Inspired, I moved on to make my Easter basket and placed it on a mini cupcake stand. It goes great with my decor and adds that five star touch.

My other favorite was a game changer for me. This baby is sits in my car with me and comes in handy with two boys. Now when there is trash in my car I grab this small container, pull out a grocery bag and clean that mess up. Perfect for kids, it fits in your purse or diaper bag and you can make it as trendy or chic as  you want. I decorated mine with left over fabric, which I hot glued it to the container. From there, I spray painted the top, cut a hole in it and placed plastic grocery bags in the bowl. In order to make them “pop up” when pulled, I took one bag looped it through another bag through the handles.  I was able to fit 10 bags in.
