You say bone broth in the instant pot I say beef broth. You say Tomato I say Tomatoe, you decide.
My mother bought me an instant pot a few months ago.
I wanted it for months and when I got it as a present it made a great counter accessory. I was honestly afraid to use it. Even though it is virtual so simple to use when you get the hang of it. I was so very nervous. Despite joining a huge instant pot community I was scared. Finally I decided with all my mad google skills and reading up I would attempt to make my very own bone broth. Here is my rendition of my bone broth in the instant pot. However I am a bit skeptical with calling it bone broth as I really enjoyed it more when I made it in my crockpot. I like cooking it for 24 hours plus. I noticed that it didn’t taste the same with the flavor and It was more like stock then what I am used to in the crockpot. Then again I could be doing the bone broth in the instant pot completely wrong. Either way it makes a great broth.
Ingredients
- 4lbs of beef bones
- 1 onion cut in half but keep the skin on. It is packed with vitamins. They are so nutritious. Lots of fiber. My mother told me and she is never wrong. Google it if you must, the onion not my mother!
- 1 head of garlic cut in half again with the peels keep it
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 spring of rosemary
- 1 pinch of cayenne pepper
- 3 stalks of celery
- 4 carrots
- and…. a kiss because everything taste better with a little love
Instructions
- Put beef bones on a baking sheet and roast at 450 for 45 minutes
- Transfer the bones and put in the Instant pot
- Place onion with skin, garlic with skin, bay leaf, thyme, kosher salt, pepper, rosemary, cayenne pepper and kiss in the instant pot
- Fill water just below the “max fill line”
- Set to manual to high pressure for 90 minutes
- Release pressure, then remove lid and allow to cool
- Strain mixture into one quart mason jars. I do this by adding cheesecloth to the strainer and allowing it to strain in another pot.
- When I put in the mason jars I use the broth within 6 days. If I know I will not be using the broth within that time. I usually fill my bone broth/ beef broth in ice cube trays to freeze and then transfer to a plastic freezer bag and double bag it and date it. Put back in the freezer and keep for when I need stock for soup or just want to sip. What I noticed when cooking in the Instant Pot is that it will ask for broth when cooking and this is perfect you can even divide the cubes in smaller bags for this purpose.
