What you need to know before getting the IUD

“What to expect before you get your IUD implanted Impaled in your uterus”. My uterus took the bait, from day one it was hook line and sinker. OMG! That is a whole other story.

Pretty sure you did research before deciding that the IUD is right for you. Not being a healthcare professional, I can only offer my experience and opinions.  Mirena was a choice both my doctor and I agreed on due to my needs. Mirena is an IUD that is a small, T-shaped intrauterine device placed into your uterus. This allows you and your significant other a chance to Netflix and chill without the stork dropping by unexpectedly.

When it was time to get my IUD I didn’t think anything of it. I ignorantly thought it wouldn’t hurt and it was just a little uncomfortable like a pap smear. OH I was wrong. I was so wrong. Getting the IUD put in my uterus was no easy task. My Uterus wants to go into the witness protection program, she has already titled so far to the right. Not being what she used to be and trying hard to claw her way out. My doctor is the Uterus Whisperer and he was able to make negotiations. Thus an FYI for all my followers.

Laying on my back in the pap position I was asked to cough. When I asked why……I realized why and started coughing like I have never coughed before. I coughed like I had one lung. My doctor said it wasn’t that bad right, you had kids?! UM first of all I was knocked out with one. Secondly I was heavily medicated. I had C-sections and no it hurt. It felt like I shook a cat in a bag and let it go in my uterus. Perhaps the latter was a strange and weird analogy. After it was all said and done I was already having panic attacks thinking I have to do this again in five years. I truly saw stars it hurt and it was painful and I have had three kids. All c-section and I dealt with recovery and I still wouldn’t want the IUD ever again but would have another C-section!

What you need to know before getting an IUD

  1. Make sure you do your research and ask lots of questions.
  2. Ask your doctor for something to soften your cervix. Either a day before or minutes before your procedure. Don’t believe them when they say it doesn’t hurt. If they say that they are LIARS.
  3. You will want pain medication over the counter can do the job. Make sure you have some at home before you get the procedure.
  4. Take a pain medication before your non surgical procedure if you have a low pain threshold.
  5. Days after I was in severe pain. I was told that it wasn’t due to the IUD. I swear to the powers that be that my uterus was trying to give birth to this IUD.
  6. After a few weeks I didn’t notice it was there and neither did my husband.
